The stories I have so far

October 31, 2007-Halloween
Tonight to celebrate Halloween, grandma and I ate sliced apples and dipped them in caramel sauce. Afterwards, we played a game of skip Bo (grandma’s favorite game) Grandma won a game and so did I. I was impressed that she remembered more of the rules than on a previous time we played it. While we were playing she spoke of her Halloween memories. She told me that when she was a young child she and Wells, her brother, would get a white sheet and cut it in half, put a hole in it for a mouth and go trick or treating. Grandma was cute as she broke into song, “boo boo boo boo, I am a ghost to scare you.” It made us both chuckle. We topped off our Halloween night by going to sing the same song to Anne Weenig and Ila Gibb. Ann gave us candy. I decided to save my treat but grandma went ahead and ate her KIT KAT after she boldly stated, “it is Halloween and I am going to eat my treat.”

May 2008
One morning, Grandma and I were eating waffles for breakfast. Grandma had poured too much maple syrup on her pancake. I had made a fuss about getting too much syrup to which she replied, “My pancake is learning to swim.”

May 24, 2008
As grandma was speaking of the pretty pink dress that Kay bought for her to wear for her 90th birthday party at Aunt Diane’s she said, “I will either win a prize or be sent home.”

June 2008
Grandma said “Well--DO you know what a well is? It is a deep subject.”

Wednesday, July 8, 2008 “The Sorry Spider”
Grandma and I were having a little snack before we went to bed. We had a drink and some prunes. We were just standing in the kitchen when I saw a spider running across the floor. I did not have my shoes on so I grabbed a tissue and tried to smash it but it just ran off over the tissue. Since Grandma was in her house slippers, I told her to smash it. I pointed to the location of the spider. Then she brought her leg up and with great force (none I had seen grandma use before) she stomped her foot down as she did this she fell backward landing on her back and was now laying the entryway of the condo. I was shocked and scared that she had fallen “I am sorry Grandma” to which she laughed and responded, “At least I killed the spider.” Then pointing she said, “See, there it is.” I looked to see where she was pointing and noticed her pointing toward the prune that had launched out of her hand while she fell. I laughed, “Grandma that is a prune and not a spider.” Our laughter now became more intensified. I told her, “The spider is probably on your slipper.” I picked up the slipper; it had come off her foot when she fell. I showed her the bottom of the slipper, “There is the dead spider.” I then shoke the spider into the garbage can. I asked her where she hurt. She said that she would likely have a few sore spots. She continued to laugh which relieved my worries. If she really was hurt, I don’t think she would have laughed. But then again, she amazes me. She believes it is better to laugh than cry. I tried to help her up but she refused my help. She decided that she would crawl over to a chair to help herself up. That was even silly to see her crawl. Anyway, the morale of this story is spiders are not worth it. When I told Ann Weenig the story she told grandma “Don’t get mixed up and eat a spider instead of prune.”

June 8, 2008
Grandma went to dinner at Rod and Kay's house in Centerville. Jeff, Ann and their children were in town visiting from Denver. Lee, Joan, and Emily Smith were also there for dinner. When grandma found out that the Smith's lived near Wasatch Lawns (the cemetery where Grandpa Weenig is buried) and that it was actually part of the Smith's ward, grandma realized that meant that grandpa was in their ward boundaries and she proclaimed, "but I am sure that he is quite in active." We laughed quite a while about it.

The story behind the photo

Here is the story behind the photo "Grandma Drives??? In July, Jeff Jex test drove a car over from Denver to Salt Lake. While he was here he took grandma for a drive in the convertable. Upon her return it was decided by Rod, Mich, and Jeff that a photo MUST be taken of grandma as if she was driving. Later when asked about the photo, grandma replied "they told me to sit in the car, but I don't drive."
